  • 1.  RANBP2 AND GANGLION CELL LOSS

    Posted 2 days ago
I have a 67 year old hypertensive woman I have seen on three occasions with severe binasal field loss that has been currently stable. Her Mean RNFL thicknesses are 44microns OD and 52 microns OS and her fields show severe binasal field loss. Her imaging and workup are thus far negative
Her son suffered Acute necrotizing encephalopathy and survived some years ago and is neurologically normal now and was found to have the gene mutation RANBP2. My patient was recently tested and also has the same gene mutation.
This gene may have effects on Retinal ganglion cell function although I can find no clinical reports of optic neuropathy so far.
Has anyone had any experience with this gene mutation that is relevant? Thank you.

I have a 45 year old woman with RANBP2 mutation and developed Influenza then developed headache and similar with binasal field defects with sectoropia. She however had bilateral LGN lesions on mri.
This is our poster and presented at a neuro ophthalmology society australia New Zealand meeting 2023.

Interesting; do you have detailed OCT on the patient; although that was a sectoranopia localized to the LGN; my patient has binasal hemianopia and profound RNF loss
