Dear Colleagues:
We would like to invite you to participate in a survey on return of genetic results to neuro-ophthalmology patients in the United States. This study will help identify barriers to genetic testing, genetic counseling, and return of genetic results across multiple subspecialties in ophthalmology to propose interventions that may improve clinical outcomes. The study is led by our Ophthalmic Genetics Research Group in collaboration with the Center for Precision Medicine and Genomics at Columbia University Irving Medical Center.
You are being invited to participate in this study because you are a neuro-ophthalmologist.
If you agree to participate, you will be asked to complete an anonymous, online survey regarding your views.
We will also ask for some background information, such as gender, race/ethnicity, and professional experience.
Your participation in this survey is completely voluntary. Data collected for this study will be de-identified and confidential -- the researchers will not be able to link your survey responses to your identity. All reports from the study will be based on aggregate data, not individual responses. If you wish, you will have the opportunity to receive further educational resources upon completion of the survey.
If you have questions about this study, either before making a decision about participation or later on, you can contact the Co-Principal Investigators, Aliaa Abdelhakim, MD, PhD at aha2133@cumc.columbia.edu or Maya Sabatello, LLB, PhD, at ms4075@cumc.columbia.edu.
If you have any questions about your rights as a research participant, want to provide feedback, or have a complaint, you may call Columbia University's Institutional Review Board (IRB), at 212-305-5883 during regular hours.
Thank you in advance for your help.
