Good afternoon all,
I have a 63-year-old patient with history of epilepsy controlled on Keppra and Lamictal (last seizure 1 year ago) and 3 traumatic brain injuries caused by seizures - most recently in 2024.
In May of this year, she started having an afterimage of lights. Mostly for red lights and worst for taillights when driving. She continues to see the lights with eyes open or closed for at least 2-4 minutes. It does not happen for all lights - she works on a computer and has no symptoms from the screen. As this started more than a year after her last head trauma it does not seem to be related, and it is not likely related to well-controlled seizures.
MRI/MRA normal. No headaches and no recent medication changes
Any ideas what might cause a specific afterimage for lights only? Any treatment that might help her?
Thanks for any help you can provide.
