Dear colleagues, Does anyone have experience with Labcorp for LHON-related genetic tests? While my institution tries to establish a connection with a more specific genetic lab, I realized that LabCorp also offers a mtDNA genome sequence and deletion test using whole blood. It would be very convenient to use for us compared to external labs, but I wonder if it is also accurate and reliable. I would appreciate your thoughts.
I believe Invitae is now part of Labcorp. I have done a lot of testing through them and very easy. I do the buccal swab in my office and their kits contain a prepaid fed-x packaging. However I have not done testing for LHON in a while and just went to their site and it is not listed in the catalogue. They do have a nuclear mitochondrial DNA panel, but not sure if this includes any of the tests for the LHON mutations.
Labcorp has a separate lab they use for mitochondrial testing, invitae only does nuclear testing, the major downside is they don't offer a single panel for mitochondrial and nuclear optic neuropathy genes
