We would like our NANOS community to be aware of two important advocacy items - these items are particularly applicable to our USA based members. Please make your voices heard by responding, your can use the links below. Thank you
- AAN Action Alert - Protect Grant Funding for Critical Neuroscience Research
The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has proposed a government-wide rule that would change how biomedical research grants are reviewed, awarded, and used. The American Academy of Neurology (AAN) is concerned this would politicize grant disbursement, add restrictive conditions on fund use, and hinder collaboration with international researchers. A Senate short-term funding bill has temporarily blocked implementation through December 11, but AAN is asking physicians to urge legislators to permanently block the rule. This is relevant to our whole NANOS community, not just US members, since it could affect how US research funding interacts with international research.

2. AMA-Endorsed Action Item - HR 9693 (Medicare Physician Payment Reform)
The AMA is also asking physicians to support HR 9693, a bipartisan bill that would:
1. Provide a permanent annual payment update tied to the Medicare Economic Index (MEI) to better reflect increases in practice costs
2. Modernize budget neutrality policies, including provisions from H.R. 8163
3. Create a physician-led process for developing simplified, clinically relevant quality measures
4. Expand opportunities for physicians to participate in alternative payment models
